Organic Space
The Parti
The ideas inherent in Organic Space are the exploration of the language of architecture – form, space, and light – through blown glass sculptures that reference the modern trend towards organic architecture. While some of the forms within this work initially reference specific architectural projects, or the idea of organic architecture itself, others are more self-referential to the aforementioned forms, specific glass techniques, and patterns.
A Parti is an organizing thought or decision behind an architect's design, presented in the form of a basic diagram or a simple statement. This subtitle of this work references the Parti to indicate that the ideas and aesthetics are an initial organizing scheme for this work’s departure from Deconstructing Architecture. While the work is still referencing the language of architecture – form, space, and light, it embarks upon a tangent, foregoing the rigid geometric forms of the previous work to explore more organic forms.
The process of glassblowing lends itself to more organic and curvilinear forms. In this way the process itself supports the ideas that the work is exploring. Traditional patterning techniques are used to create fenestration patterns that interact with the light.
